Although Easter might still look a bit different this year, it is still important to create a welcoming space to celebrate with family. Golden Isles Moms spoke with internationally known designer and fellow GIM Emily Burton of Emily Burton Designs about how to create the perfect table scape for your holiday meal!
Golden Isles Moms: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Emily Burton: I majored in Interior Design at University of Georgia, worked as a Senior Designer for a firm in Atlanta until the market crashed in 2008, where I lost my job and it lead me to open up my very own business of event planning + design, which I now have been doing for going on 13 years.
GIM: What inspires you as a designer?
EB: Gosh, everything literally, but mostly fashion, nature, and travel experiences.
GIM: What are a few basics that every holiday table should have?
EB: There are a few things-
a.) A Focal Point/Centerpiece
b.) Mixing Up Textures
c.) Pretty Color Palette that is Inviting
d.) Pretty Drink + Snack or H’orderve until all the guests arrive
GIM: Take us through how you build a table scape.
EB: First I pick something that inspires me to become the focal point (be it a linen, a print, or an element), then I design all of the other items around that so it’s one cohesive look.
GIM: What are some of your favorite local shops for great decor?
EB: Restoration Hardware, Two Friends, and Dot & Army
GIM: What are some tips you have to keep Easter tables kid-friendly?
EB: Add menus that act as coloring pages! (Like these from Target)
