What is your name? Amanda Kuhn

What Golden Isle do you call home and how long have you lived there? St. Simons Island, 5 years

What do you love about living here?I love the beauty and “small town” feel of the island and being able to explore so much nature with my family without having to go far from home. Just a walk down the street is full of adventure!

How many children do you have and what are their names and ages? Four: Will (8), Ben (6), Drew (4), Sammie (2)

What’s one of your favorite mom resources (websites, groups, stores, etc.) in the area?Golden Isles Moms of course!

What do you do for work and what’s the best part of your job?I’m a full-time mom, caregiver to my son that is physically disabled, and teacher to my other son that began homeschooling this year. I’m thankful I have the ability to be so involved with my children while staying home (but I admit I sometimes miss getting dressed in my business casual and going into an office for adult time). Life guides us to where we should be – I’m embracing it!

What’s one thing people might be surprised to know about you? I don’t have one big “thing”, so let’s see… I like hard rock, sewing, singing, growing dragon fruit cacti, fishing, and have somehow turned into a snake owner (yikes)!

What’s one way you relax when you need to “unwind”? I love creating art, particularly fingerpainting with oil. I took a hiatus for a few years when in the trenches of mothering infants, but have recently thrown myself back into it. I was losing my own hobbies and wanted (needed) to find it again.

What’s your best mom hack?Melatonin? Ha! Seriously though, when the kids get difficult I follow the “take them outside or put them in water” rule. But the biggest hack – asking for help when I need it.
