Meet Katie! As a former dancers she knows how important it is to get little ones moving! We love her idea of the best mom hack and find a good pizza and movie night works for us as well!
What is your name? Katie Tippett
What Golden Isle do you call home and how long have you lived there? I live on St Simons. I have lived here for 8 years ago.
What do you love about living here? I love the nature here, the water and the marsh and the oaks. It’s magical and whimsical and centering. There is nothing like sunrise at Gould’s and sunset at Epworth. I love raising my kids here. We can walk or bike to school and to church. Kids come in and out of our house all day. And we get to buzz the beach to catch our breath on a busy day. I love the community culture. It’s creative and supportive and open. I have been able to launch projects and businesses and have always get supported and encouraged in the community. The landscape and the community
How many children do you have and what are their names and ages? I have four children. Raines, 8; Mae, 6; Bonnie, 5; Grant, 1.
What’s one of your favorite mom resources (websites, groups, stores, etc.) in the area? I am really loving the newly launched Instagram account @stsimoms . I have gotten a lot of really great info about kid and family activities, sales, and even fun things for moms.
What do you do for work and what’s the best part of your job? I launched Mini Motions Preschool Dance 5 years ago. We teach on site dance classes at preschools and elementary schools. I love it so much because I get to share my love of dance with kids in the community while my own kids are at school. And I feel like it serves families by bringing programming right into schools. Parents are able to easily expose their kids to dance and music in the day time, helping them protect evening family time in the little years. Also, I love when
I walk into a school and get all the hugs and smiles and excited to dance wiggles!
What’s one thing people might be surprised to know about you? When I was 22 I was a finalist for the Boston Celtics Dancers and competed in a pageant in a nightclub for the finals. I didn’t make the final cut, and I never tried out again, but it was a fun experience. About 400 dancers auditioned and 40 got to compete in the pageant. I was happy with that, and went on to coach the Boston College Dance Team for 2 seasons.
What’s one way you relax when you need to “unwind”? I will always either dance or write when I really need to settle my mind, body, and heart.
What’s your best “mom hack?” Pizza and movie night on Fridays is a win win for our family.
